Prairie Pilot of Wichita meets on the 3rd Monday of each month at 901 Porter. This is the Civitan House in Riverside. We start with dinner at 6:00 followed by a program or business meeting.
This year we are focused on Pick Me Ups……ways to care for caregivers. Our first Pick Me Up is for the incredible teachers at Levy Special Education Center in Wichita. All the students have some sort of disability. We are providing basketfuls of snacks for the teachers during their first week. We have a long history of volunteering at Levy School…including helping with their semi-annual prom held for the older students. We also do projects for the staff twice a month.
Our next Pick Me Up will be for families of students with special needs. We will supply food and other items for a weekend family event put on by Families Together. The goal will be networking and FUN for the entire family. In addition to a financial donation, Pilots will help serve lunch, play games and make craft items.
Prairie Pilot of Wichita proudly presented Hannah Marsh Miller with a PIF scholarship for $1700. Hannah will be a junior at Wichita State University majoring in Exercise Science. This is Prairie’s first PI scholarship but hopefully not it’s last.
Hannah is excited about the provisional membership offered by PI and is hoping to join us for some of our program meetings and volunteer opportunities. Hannah just married in June and she is hoping her new hubby will want to volunteer too!.
Presenting the scholarship are President Kathy Tucker (left) and PIF Rep Marie Noyes.
